** spoiler alert ** The cover of my purple 1970s edition of this book says "The most haunting love story in the English language." I would also add that it's the most messed up love story in the English language. This is not a good book. You have a selfish Narcissistic Catherine toying with a soon to be diabolical Heathcliff who love each other but Cathy is spoiled and dumb and marries another and then gets mad at Heathcliff when he marries her sister-in-law. Really it's just terrible. And then it gets worse. Both couples have kids who grow to love each other and Heathcliff messes them up and wants to destroy them. Add several deaths and let me say, it's just a whole ball of fun.

Really, if you want a Bronte story to read... stick to Jane Eyre. MUCH better. I was sadly disappointed.

Brenda SPOILER ALERT MAYBE????

I liked this book as a teenager.

Summer I thought I had put one on it. I guess it saves someone from reading it. I admit I am jaded... I deal with these sorts on a daily basis and just didn't like all the sniveling and drama, so I was annoyed with it. I guess I can see the appeal if I put rose colored glasses on... ;)

Brenda Oooops! Sorry, I see the spoiler alert now.

Summer I just added it, that's why. :)
