I wasn't prepared to enjoy this book as much as I did. Although the characters are older than the protagonists in Carter Finally Gets It and Swim the Fly I think there is enough "boy humor" in it to appeal to reluctant readers. Most of the chapters are very short and there's a lot of white on the page. I feel confident that any of my students would get through this book.
Although the focus of the book is on Chuck who has OCD, he has enough substance, along with his friend, Steve, that I think much of what they face is typical. Perhaps this is why the book would appeal to younger readers, I mean freshmen.
