The Tiger's Child is a follow-up to Torey Hayden's book One Child. I found this book a little bit more difficult to get through than the first one. In One Child you can't help but love Shelia and want to see her succeed. Shelia is reintroduced in this book as a teenager. In addition to her being a normal obnoxious, moody teenager she is still dealing with all of the issued that plagued her childhood.

The one thing that I did really like about this book is the fact that it shows how real life doesn't always end like a fairy tale. I think after reading One Child I wanted to believe that the love and caring that Torey showed towards Shelia would help her move on. Unfortunately, real life rarely has happy endings like that.

It was nice to hear what became of Shelia and that she is now happy doing what she wants to do.
