What a weird story. More like a series of vignettes than one cohesive tale. Bran was dumped 12 years ago by his ancient vampire lover and has never gotten over it. Now Heath is suddenly back in his life.

The story opens with Bran in a threeway with two friends of his who are a couple. Later he's hooking up with another on/off lover. But at the same time he is missing Heath. Apparently Heath mixed his blood with Bran which meant that Bran has never been able to get it on with another vampire. Once Heath does turn up, the two men get together without too much drama.

There's a mini-plot where another ancient vampire tries to kill Heath but that's over before you can blink. Bran works at a shelter for runaways and there are various young homeless kids (both newly turned vamps and humans) who have brief meaningless appearances throughout the story. Bran's relationships with his friends, Heath's vampire childe, and another vampire Elder remain strangely sexually laden. Heath doesn't seem too bothered by it.

I just found it bewildering and extremely unemotional. I got the feeling that Bran was more addicted to Heath than in love with him and I still have no idea what the point of this story was.

Emma Sea Thanks for the review, MandyM. I was uber excited about this for some reason (I don't even like vampires, so idk why) but I shall save my hard-earned cash for something more deserving.

Ami I am about 20% into the story at the moment, and already I have a feeling that you and I will end up having different point of view again *lol*. I can't see this below 3-stars rating at this point. But let's see...

No, No, Mandy. We're not! Because guess what, I'm now around 47% and I totally GET your review, when you said it was "extremely unemotional".

In fact, the rating has now decreased from the original 3-stars. I have a feeling, I will probably end up with a rating closer to you ...

Mandapanda At the beginning of part 4 it improved a bit for me then slowed down again so your up and down ride isn't over yet!;)

Chris I'm picturing the story arc looking like a hearbeat pattern...
