Well, I stopped reading this book. I got through 64 pages and put it down. Mainly, because it was due back to the library, but I still had many issues in regards to this book.

I expected a lot from this books, I'm talking about possibly having readingasms from this book seeing as Daniel Handler is also Lemony Snicket. Was I disappointed? EXTREMELY. Now, Handler/Snicket has always had a unique writing style as exhibited in the Series of Unfortunate Events, but Why We Broke Up was rather a bizarre and incoherent writing style. In a way, I felt like this book was written by 5 different people or even a schizophrenic. It was just too jumpy!

Additionally, I found an extreme distaste for the main character, Min Green, immediately. She whined and cried a sob story of why SHE broke up with her boyfrirend, Ed Slaterton. Now, I don't mind sad sob tales, but the fact that Min was SO upset over a boy that she broke up with was completely ridiculous considering Ed was nothing but a sweet guy. And, you know, break ups happen; I get that. But, as a young adult book, I think it should be promoting "girl power" and not some whiny teenager who doesn't get her way. The young adults are an extremely impressionable group, and if we want to have "hope for the future" then give them hope and not this bogus stereotypical garbage.

While I found the content of the book to be quite lackluster, the paintings inside the book were exquisite-except the painted picture of the condom that I accidentally showed my mother while trying to display the beautiful artistry of the book...yeah, that was awkward. But I mean, COME ON! Who PAINTS a picture of a CONDOM?

I'm not saying the book made me claw my eyes out, but it definitely did make me sigh and roll my eyes every other page. Regardless, I would like to eventually give it another chance again someday. Until then, there are much more fascinating books sitting on my shelf screaming "READ ME READ ME" that need my attention.
