I am unlikely to read In Search of Lost Time any time soon, but How Proust Can Change Your Life was short enough to fit comfortably into a travel reading slot. Alain de Botton does not write paragraph sentences, which I welcomed. He does at times quote Proust and company in the original French, which I might have welcomed if I knew any French myself. Such digressions aside, the book is a lovely combination of biography, philosophical musing, and (on occasion) gentle snarkiness of the type one associates with the Economist.
