** spoiler alert ** I realize this is a novelization of a movie, and so I won't flame the lack of literary quality. After reading it, I really had no desire to see the movie. The story's premise is much more based on how sick the wicked evil stepmother is, sucking life and youth from innocent maids. Apparently she's a vengeful gypsy. Who knew? Killing a king, imprisoning his daughter and ruining a country don's sate her appetite, and she finds herself missing something. What could it be? Fill in the blank here.
Secretly, the huntsman could have been hot. Well, I tried to imagine him as hot, and that helped. A little.
Throw in familiar elements: dark forest, dwarves and apples. You really know the rest. Nothing impressive. It's over. No biggie. Can't say I'd recommend it, though.
