Darkness Rising by Keri Arthur
Risa has faced the worst day of her life, the death of her mother. In order to get revenge she is going to have to make friends with former enemies and take a second look at her friends. In Darkness Rising, the second installment in the Dark Angels series, Risa continues to risk her life to keep her roommates and best friends, Tao and Ilanna, safe.
Risa also fights the passion she feels for her protector, Azriel, who is a sexy energy soldier who has taken flesh to keep Risa safe and help her find the keys that keep the portals between Hell and Earth closed. Azriel becomes more human-like during Darkness Rising and readers get the hint that he might be developing feelings for Risa, more than he should. It even appears as if he is jealous at times. But Azriel isn’t the only sexy guy in her life. Risa has developed a physical passionate relationship with a former Aedh who had lost his powers. As readers see that Azriel doesn’t trust, Lucian, readers will begin to question whose side he is on as well, especially after a horrible incident happens that changes the world around Risa.
Darkness Rising is a quick-paced exciting read as Risa seeks to find those that killed her mom and is forced by the people around her to find the keys that could open the portals between Earth and Hell. It appears that everyone is against her except for Tao and Ilanna. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, Darkness Unbound, than it might be a challenge for you to understand all the things going on in this book. Familiar characters from Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series show up again in Darkness Rising and it’s always nice to see Riley, Quinn, and Rhoan. I can see where Risa gets her stubborness and kick-butt moves.
I recommend Darkness Rising to readers who enjoy strong heroines with determination to do what is right, even if it means their own death. Risa will always protect those she loves, even with her life.
