I learned that i could never write like Virginia Woolf. She's amazing.
The book is about the common struggle that each of the characters faces to bring meaning to their lives.
All young James wants is to go to the lighthouse. Mr Ramsay just wants his wife to tell him she loves him and give him sympathy. Lily wants to complete a painting and Charles Tansley insists that women can't paint or write. Woolf tells this story in deep "stream of consciousness" and gives us so much it is sometimes hard to take it all in. Very thought-provoking for me.

Dan Porter Carol,

I always like to see someone else enjoying Woolf. She lays open human nature so well and does it with such compelling, lyrical prose. I always find her refreshing even with the stream of consciousness and the amazingly long sentences.

Reese If there weren't hundreds of books on my mental to-read and to-reread lists, I would put TO THE LIGHTHOUSE on my to-reread list only because the light provided by your review has altered my dark memories of the work. As a college student, I longed for the misery of reading this novel to end. Surely it is among the books that I read when I was too young to appreciate them. Why else would my favorite page of a brilliant work be the last page simply because it WAS the LAST page?
