Get past the dreadful cover art and the dubious title. Grit your teeth and ignore the mean-spirited parries from the pouty offspring of a certain Presidential candidate. Forget about any sort of on-the-road-esque, mutal discovery of America's true greatness or appreciation of its people.

This is a back-and-forth series of personal stories and reflections from a "Liberal" man with a Snarky Ward Cleaver lifestyle and a "Conservative" woman who gets lap dances from Vegas strippers. It's the story of their attempt to spend a month or so trying to understand one another. They travel across the country in a RV, but they really didn't have to. They could have handled this with a series of strongly-worded emails, but what the heck?

There's much they have in common. Both partake of the Ganja weed while in New Orleans and by the time they wrap things up in Connecticut, they're assuring us they don't really smoke the Mary Jane. So they've got that going for them. There's a staggering amount of drinking going on during the trip, so they could be telling the truth.

Also, they tried. They attempted to speak authentically to one another across the Great Divide that is American politics and for that I salute them and wish them well.

Michael Ian Black reveals himself to be a fine thinker and political writer, and Meghan McCain is doing her best, doggone it, with what the Good Lord gave her. I wish she'd just come out as a conservative Democrat and be done with it. Or something.
