** spoiler alert ** A boy is found covered in blood and catatonic in the woods. His two best friends have disappeared and he has no memory of what happened. Years later he is called upon (he's a detective) to investigate another murder in the same area. Sounds intriguing, right? It is for the first half.

But it all falls apart by the end. The story jumps between present day and the narrator's past. For me, the friends' disappearance was far more intriguing than the present-day murder. In the end, only the current murder is solved and it has no connection to the disappearance. I was dissatisfied.
