An informative account of Chicago politics and events at the end of
World War I. The corrupt politicians were responsible to some extent for the Magnificent Mile and much of the development of the downtown, while the progressive ones seemed inept. Within 12 days there was an aviation disaster, a child murder, transit strike and race riots. The story is well told. The Chicago way in politics goes back at least to this time. A nice complement to the Devil in the White City.
