I'm probably missing something, but Heti's ramblings on art, life, and purpose did not connect with me at all. In fact, it made me less interested in art, life, and purpose. I think I could see what she was trying to do, but I didn't get there. The "problems" of a navel-gazing artist are only problems because there is a lack of real things to be worried about. The central drama for the main character--will she/should she be writing her commissioned feminist play and what oh what does it all mean really isn't really dramatic and isn't even really a problem for anyone but her.
