Since I was just starting to succeed in the search for friends when I left Las Vegas a few months ago, I thought this would be entertaining and perhaps offer some insight into how to make new friends in Dallas, and it did, but I had a couple gripes. For one thing, I'm sure that Bertsche always planned on her experience becoming a book, and that changes the approach to the whole thing. Even if she loses in the friendship department, she has a book to write at the end of it. Also, one wonders how much her new potential BFF's new about her motives, and whether or not that had an effect on the course of their friendship. Also a bit offputting is that Rachel has friends already, seemingly a lot of them. But none are her BFF, and I understand that. I shouldn't have been surprised, the book is "Seeking BFF" not seeking friends, but I still felt a little bit annoyed that she already seemed to have a pretty active social life before beginning the project. She wasn't as desperate as me!

I don't usually read this kind of nonfiction, and I can't imagine that anyone would walk away from it saying it's their favorite book, but I'm glad I read it. I walked away from it with a more open mind about putting myself out there to make friendships, cultivate them, and let it go when things just aren't meant to be. I'm not going to start asking random women out on friend dates every week, but hopefully next time the opportunity to make a friend arises, I will be able to seize it with a little less anxiety thanks to this book.
