I picked this book up while cruising the public library shelves. I really enjoyed The Book Thief and wanted to see whether it was a one-off and if Zusak has many more books up his creative sleeve.

This is an odd book. I can't say I particularly liked the characters or cared about them. However, the plot captured me in a quiet way. It made me think, which is something I always want a book to do, but it seldom happens. The plot might seem too preachy for some. The ending was very quiet, but still satisfying.

message 1: by Peggy (new)

Peggy My husband and I both read this one after reading The Book Thief. It did not have the same impact on me as The Book Thief, which is one of my all-time favorite books, but it did get my attention since the story was so unusual. I would like to see more from this writer.
