“Leader of the Pact” by David Rosenfelt, published by Minotaur Books.

Category – Mystery/Thriller

This is the ninth novel of David Rosenfelt featuring Andy Carpenter.
Andy is an attorney that has inherited a fortune. He only works cases when he wants to, and only those that interest him. These cases are usually cases that would be unwinnable.

Six years ago Andy defended Joey Desimone and lost. Joey has now spent six years in prison. Joey was accused of killing Richard and Karen Solerno. Joey was having an affair with Karen and allegedly shot both of them in a jealous rage.

Andy comes across some vital information that leads him to believe that Joey may be innocent of the crime. Andy has always believed in Joey’s innocence and blamed his conviction on the fact that he was the son of Mafia boss Carmine Desimone.

As Andy pursues this new information the plot gets deeper and deeper, leading to murders and attempted murders. The case may also lead to a gang related operation in several South American Countries. Andy is able to get Joey a retrial and feels that he may have a fighting chance of gaining Joey his freedom. However, Andy is also caught up in the South American caper.

A nice mystery, with a touch of humor and a touch of the unexpected, that is very satisfying in seeing all the pieces come together at the end.
