Laura Levine's main character, Jaine Austen, reminds me of a cross between those of Janet Evanovich (without the foul language), and Sophie Kinsella. Janet's character, Stephanie Plum, is brasher and braver than Jaine Austen. And Jaine is not quite as frustrating as Rebecca in the Shopaholic books, but similarly lovable. I could shake Jaine sometimes when she tries to get out of a pickle she finds herself in by lying about it (as Rebecca often did), but you still feel she'd make a great friend. Easy, light, entertaining reading.
