I really didn't want to read this book. It's summer and I'd rather read more fluff.. not something that based on its title, is obviously about rape. But I was assigned it for a School Library Journal review and after putting off until nearly the deadline, I finally read it.

Is it the best story about rape I've read? No, I think Speakis more interesting and better written. Valerie is raped after a party she gives while her mother is out-of-town. The rapist is a boy invited to the party. Needless to say, Valerie gets drunk. The rape doesn't happen until the following morning. The rape itself is very, very briefly described. What the book is about is the aftermath: how Valerie adjusts to being disbelieved and loses all her friends. But especially Valerie's struggle as she wonders how much of the blame is hers.

It's a short read but for a mature teen.
