I've always admired the poems of Billy Collins, but I cannot help but wonder if he chooses to play it safe, to create works that are "too accessible." Picnic, Lightning is still one of my favorite collections, and while I enjoyed Horoscopes, I feel the pieces are much too aware that they are Poems. If this doesn't make sense, I offer this caveat: I've always been behind on contemporary poetry, and I still lack the mental resources to analyze poems like I do other forms of writing.
