1985 Caldecott Medal. The art is rich and detailed but no more so than many other far superior stories. The wording is awkward and the story way too long and tedious. Also, I really can't stand the damsel-in-distress-standing-by-helplessly-while-looking-pretty stories.
The Paper Bag Princess is a far better read about a princess. It's not a Caldecott, but that is meaning less and less as I go through the list of winners.
