I really enjoyed this book and even more because it is a debut novel and the author currently resides in Vancouver. The plot and the themes are not new...the relationship between mothers/daughters, husbands/wives...and friendships that revolve around food. The setting in Macau is only secondary but it offers up an opportunity to add some cosmopolitan flair and to create some diversity. This book did not take me long to read - language used definitely conveyed the emotions being explored.
