This is a great book for middle grades, but was fun to read even at my age! (Somewhat older than early teen.) While the vocabulary and depth had to be somewhat limited given the target audience, it was a real page turner and gave great opportunities for engaging in "what would I do"? thinking. It also deals with a very real and difficult life situation for a child, and one that is all too common.

Give it a read!

I attended a reading of Small as an Elephant this morning by the lovely and informative Ms. Jacobson, and can't wait to devour it myself! She began at the beginning, and read us into the drama, which didn't take long. While the book is targeted at 9-13 year olds, the writing is so good and the central themes so solid that adults should like it too.

I'll write an update once I'm finished reading, but I can tell already that this one is a winner!
