Great to see Peter James returning to his roots in edgy Michael Crichton/Robin Cook techno/medical thriller territory. I really enjoyed a lot of his earlier books such as Host and The Truth.
Perfect People to me is a deeper, darker and modernised version of John Wyndham's Midwich Cuckoos. When a couple go for genetic manipulation of their unborn child, they get more than they originally signed up for when it seems like eminent scientist Dr Dettore may have a hidden agenda. I did find some parts slightly implausible but James does have a knack of getting you hooked on the details.
And a very clever twist of a ending which I didn't see coming but fitted the story perfectly.
