This book reminds me of the short story "The Lottery" and the novel "The Giver". After reading "The Hunger Games", I would say they are closely related. A futuristic society, where people are no longer individuals. The gov't is in complete control. My understanding is that 1984 is like this book; Zamyatin was commenting on Communism and was exiled for it. The amazing part is that the ideas in this books are so advance for the time period that it was written in. I did like the book, but it is a difficult read for many, and my students hated it. lol
