Over-hyped. While I went into the book knowing that it was not fast paced, I was still quite conscious of just how much furnishing was a complete waste. The major areas and parts of the stories are often the more boring parts in the grand scheme of things. (view spoiler)

The plot itself is fairly straight forward and simple. Some say that it is hard sci-fi, but I really feel that it was nothing of the sort. A good message said in a obtusely verbose and while imaginative -- boring way.

Just as the most rich and interesting landscape can be painted with simplistic stylings by one painter and a realistic masterpiece by another brush; this is like ripping both canvases in half and stitching them together. Both sides lose.
