In a black-and-white world of white snow and black soot, Annabelle finds a box of yarn in every color. She begins knitting herself a colorful sweater and discovers that she never runs out of yarn. She knits sweaters and coverings for everyone and everything around her, adding color to the entire community. Annabelle gets many offers to sell her yarn box but she always refuses, until one day an evil archduke, "who was very fond of clothes" has it stolen.

Jon Klassen's simple, straightforward illustrations work well to match the pace of Mac Barnett's storytelling. This uncommon story will be popular with readers who enjoy the unusual.
