While undoubtedly a great portrayal of the racial divides that existed then (and to this day, although I hope to a lesser extent), the book suffered from the overly preachy summations of the defense/prosecution. However, at the very end, in surprisingly brief way, Max tells Bigger about the flourishing of buildings and what happens when you hold them too tight. Extremely powerful and true to this very day

Daria I read this back in highschool. It made a huge impression on me. I should probably re-read it.
