I also read White Teeth, which I really liked, but this book is where Zadie Smith really comes into her own. I just felt like this book was nearly perfect. Each of the characters is so completely realized. Even though their actions are unpredictable, they absolutely make sense with who they are. They all deal with seeming contradictions against who they believe themselves to be, and I think this book captures a very important moment of when someone learns that they aren't exactly who they thought they were. That they are capable to doing something bizarre, or wrong, or unethical, or forgiving someone for hurting them. I don't read a lot of books twice, but I think I will read this one again someday.
