it was amazing

I received an advanced copy of this book as part of GoodReads FirstReads and I am so excited I won because I LOVE Short stories.

This collection did not disappoint! The stories are told through various methods (first person, letters, etc.) and are woven together through travel. The characters in each story are about to take a journey, on a journey, or have recently arrived. They span various times and places, from 17th century Cape Code to Canada in the 1960s. Many of the stories are sad, while others are slightly scary, and some are just interesting. My favorite part was the endnote to each story where the author explained the origins of each tale - each is based on some newspaper clipping or historical account.

This was such a brilliant concept for a collection of short stories and I am so glad Donoghue thought of it. I have never read anything by her before, now I want to read every word she has written!

If you are a fan of short stories don't miss this one!!!
