Jonathan Biddle disappointed with your first Stephen King book?

Daniel Threlfall "Disappointed" probably isn't the right word. I was entertained by the character development and political construction. It was long, though. Very long and somewhat tedious at parts. Although the novel is basically a battle between good and evil, I felt that evil somehow triumphed in an unnecessary twist at the end. Maybe that was the author's point...

Daniel Threlfall Have you read any King?

Jonathan Biddle That's helpful. No, I've never read King...maybe one day, although from your review it seems my could be better spent elsewhere.

Daniel Threlfall Yeah, probably so. :-)

James Murray I"m reading my way through King's work... started with his 1st book and am now up to number 8 or so. Definitely worth reading a few. He's a great storyteller and each book is so different... it's like books written by brothers or family members rather than the same person each time. I wouldn't start with the stand, lol... but it's worth the read too.

Daniel Threlfall I chose The Stand because it was rated as his "best." I agree that I should probably read more of King to get a better feel for his writing. I felt that the biggest strength of The Stand was in the way he brought all these random characters together to basically rebuild the world. The plot itself was ehhhh, but the characters who built that plot were amazing.
