This historical fiction book really shows women's rights coming into being in India. It was amazing to see how child widows have been treated in the past. It made me wonder how long that went on or if anything like that is still done anywhere in the world.

I always enjoy getting to see into another culture. The main character seemed very real and it was easy to slip into the family. Many of the words were challenging to keep straight, but there was a glossary (which I didn't discover for a long time).
