Oh dear.... what happened to the brilliant one liners and a genuine anti hero of a character from "getting rid of matthew" that prompted me to read this one.

Believe me, if all chick lit was like this, I would never have attempted another foray into the world of the enemies minds.

This is a flimsey novel that doesnt have a lot going for it.... it is gently amusing, rather than funny and has poor characterisation and story - with the marriage infidelity and divorce as a premise to a bit of gentle slapstick, rather than a john wayne bobbit bit of surgery.

James is the centrepeice of the story. He lives part of the week in London (again, well drawn) with his wife stephanie and child and part of the week in the countrside - with his mistress Kate.

He has taken things a bit far with Kate - moved in with her and having a social circle. As if that could happen without Kate knowing for a year - what about holidays and weekends etc.

Stephanie finds a text from kate on his phone - confronts her and quickly realises that she is as much in the dark. They then both plot a series of revenges.

Some of these are gentle - like buying the same clothes and kate changing her appearance to look like Steph - freaking james out. Others get more sinister, as his business practices, breaking of planning permissions and employment law lapses are reported to the authorities.

Steph has increasing misgivings about what they are doing, expecially as James starts to go off the rails (not that you as the reader are bothered and he is a weak spineless character) but Katie increasingly goes for the kill.

It was all meant to peak at his 40th birthday celebrations - spread over two days - before he collapses in tears at the end of the first one and admits everything.

All a bit light and fluffy and not as good as the first one, which is a concern but at least the author avoids the temptation to have a sickly sweat ending.
