This story spoke most powerfully to me in the emotional connection I have with writer characters struggling to realize their dream. I enjoyed Colin's style and thought he did a great job pulling me faster and faster towards the conclusion. The main character, Benedict, is a very likable character, despite his obvious flaws.

Many writers go through the rejection period for so long that they wonder if they'll have to give up. That is true horror for me, and even if you're not a writer, you can still imagine what it would be like to give up your dream and accept being a failure. Colin starts us out at Benedict's breaking point, then introduces a magical type of writing ability that threatens to steal everything else that matters. You are drawn through in a quick read to find out which one Benedict will choose.

As I writer, I also liked the writing advice that Benedict receives when meeting his writing idol. Then I liked Colin's continuity in keeping Benedict's perception of life forever changed, giving the reader glimpses of life through an artist's eyes. I can also appreciate the struggle Benedict had between his love life, his physical health and his passion to finish the story. I too struggle from hip pain from sitting at my desk too long pursuing my dream, so it was funny that Colin mentioned that as well.

All in all, I look forward to reading more of Colin's work. He definitely gets what it's like to be a writer, and I'm eager to see how else that is reflected in his stories.
