Timothy Treadwell's Among Grizzlies: Living with Wild Bears in Alaska should be a companion read because together the two stories illustrate one end of the bell curve of how idealist 'outsiders' try to live in Alaska?

Reading Jon Krakauer I can see the literary and dramatic themes in McCandless' way of life(less compelling in Timothy Treadwell's situation ?) that attracted Penn and Krakauer to explore McCandless' story and retell it.

I found Sean Penn's film of the same title a respectful and insightful dramatization of Christopher McCandless's life on the road and in Alaska. It is worth watching for the beautiful cinematography and expressive soundtrack alone.
