The name of my independent reading book is called "The Bitch Posse", and the author's name is Martha O' Connor. This book is about three women (Cherry, Rennie and Amy) who are being haunted by events from years ago. Cherry, Rennie and Amy were very close friends as teenagers, but grew apart once they grew older. The causes of their separation are the secrets that they kept from each other while they were in high school. Betrayal in their relationships led to a point of no return, and the three girls who called themselves the "Bitch Posse", broke up. Connor wrote this novel in the point of view of each girl during their teenage days, and during their adulthood.
This book is based on a teenage friendship between three girls. It is not just a "girly" chick lit book because sacrifice, depression and self harm take place. There is a deeper meaning to this book instead of the typical high school stories that are written in most novels. All of the main characters have their own issues to deal with, and these issues keep readers' attention throughout the book. A person who is interested in characters who find themselves, would be interested in "The Bitch Posse". These three friends are girls who are on the verge of becoming adults. There are different morals to this story, and readers will see the messages that Connor is trying to convey through these three friends.
