bookshelves: historical-mystery

To continue in the vein of historical mysteries, I found this series (The Gaslight Series) by Victoria Thompson. There are several books already published (always a good thing!), and they appear, so far, to be very promising.

These are set in turn-of-the-century Manhattan (same time period as Caleb Carr's wonderful books, The Alienist and Angel of Darkness) and feature Sarah Brandt, a daughter of high society turned midwife and now amateur sleuth. She forms an unlikely pairing with Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy in tracking down the murderer of a young girl in a boarding house. So far, I enjoy both main characters as well as the voice and style of the author, and look forward to several more content hours of reading in a world lit by gaslight...
