Alright so. Pretty much spoiler free so don't worry about that. It was a wonderful adventure and the pacing kept up just as well as the other Fowl books, only I felt like it needed more. Maybe that's just me being sad to see yet another childhood favorite of mine come to an end, but I didn't really feel like there was enough. It is considerably shorter than Atlantis Complex (okay that's a lie, only 30 pages shorter, but still). I had managed to get through the first 5.5 books in a reread leading up to this release, so perhaps I was mentally comparing it to the past ones as far as pacing goes.

Holly says it herself that one her maneuvers, usually an "act three" type of stunt, was being pulled right from the get-go. It jumped right into the action and stayed there because of the time limit, so that is probably why it felt so short. There was no time for them to stand around (not that there ever is, am I right?)

It felt a lot more adult than the other books have, but it had been growing increasingly in that direction during the last few. That's what happens when the audience that read the books when they first came out grows up along with the plot. And I can't fault it for that, because it comes just as out of place as it should to a peaceful society like the People belong to.

My favorite part by far were the punny names given to some of the spirits. Especially Salton Finnacre and Shayden Fruid and Kolin Ozkopy.

My one hope now is that Colfer releases some kind of "X years later" sort of short story to explain what happens at the end!
