Read in September, 2008

I returned it to the library unfinished. I'm not a big fan of literal time-travel plots in novels, even romance novels, because ultimately I feel they become trite and cheesy. If you read enough of them, you have to re-read all the cheesy "What do you mean I/you aren't from this century?!" 'revelatory' stuff all over again. In this case, the setting (magical Scottish Highlands mystics and esoterics) just struck me as even more absurd in its execution than the supernatural romances I've been reading in the last few years. I just couldn't stomach it, and actually quit partway through, which I almost never do. I apologize to Joyce's fans, but the first couple of chapters of this were miserable enough that I had to put it down. I read a lot of romance, a lot of supernatural, a lot of historical, a lot of hard erotica and a fair amount of combinations of those, so I do have others to compare it to. For folks who read further, I hope it was worth it-- again, I apologize for the negativity.
