really liked it
bookshelves: humorous-fun, supernatural
Read from July 09 to 13, 2012

I picked up this book from the library based on the Recommendations tab here at Goodreads.

It's not quite like any other book I've ever read. Which is good that the author can come up with a unique concept. In a way, this did make me think of M. M. Kaye's "Ordinary Princess" in the Katie Chandler is a ordinary person. Completely devoid of magic. And completely filled with common sense and the ability to discern what the people around her are doing. Her super-power is her ordinariness.

Katie is from a small town in Texas and is now living in New York, the city, with 2 friends from college. She has a lousy job with a boss who does not recognize her talents and just how much Katie helps her.

Then Katie is approached for a new position in a company that creates spells. The company needs someone ordinary, who can make sure the magical people with whom they are doing business aren't trying to trick them by using magic.

The book is light and fun. As problems present themselves, some require magic to be solved and some require just plain human solutions. The book is like eating Nilla Wafers, simple, sweet, not complicated or heavy, not spicy. A nice little snack with a glass of milk.
