Read in August, 2012 — I own a copy
This is a review of a free copy I received from a giveaway. At 586 pages long and being a large soft cover this book is a killer on a readers wrist but so worth it. For the most part I really enjoyed reading this story. Number one reason being that the vampires were scary not sparkly or brooding. Not that those kinds aren't okay just that the market is saturated with them now. The author has a way with words that is sorely lacking in a lot of today's books. The scenes were set up in a way that you could visualize but not get bogged down in the little details. The way the characters interacted was believable and enjoyable. Some aspects of the story weren't really all that easy to believe but we are talking about vampires taking over the world here.
I grew emotionally attached to each of the characters and tensed every time an action scene came up, held my breath in a few parts and nearly screamed when bad things happened to them. Though the pacing could be slow I found that this only made me more determined to make it to the end of the book. The main character Emma was constantly doing things that annoyed me but was in the end a great addition to the story. My favorite character though was Scitzo, yeah I know he was a dog but he saved Em's butt more than once and I'm a dog person. I few parts toward the end had me scratching my head and wondering if I'd missed a few pages that would explain how things had turned so peculiar, but overall a good read. Just one thing though, the ending is really killing me I want for there to be a sequel in the future to read cause that would be awesome.
