really liked it

Ed Brubaker does what he does best here. He begins a new series mixing noir, deadly dames, and the supernatural. Sounds like it might not work? Well, for the most part it does. Brubaker kept me interested in a tale that begins in the 1940s, goes to the 1950s and then today. It is not completely linnear, and that is not the problem. The issue is how short this installment is. I think we could have done with more information about the femme fatale, Jo. yes, she is supposed to be a mystery. But, why doesn't she age, how is she able to control men, and why are demons after her? Characters such as Nicolas Lash, Hank Raines, and Walter Booker are better realized.

Good enough to come back for volume two. As I said very good, but not great.
