Read from July 20 to 24, 2012

Full disclosure: I did not finish this book. I love the author's writing style. She can relay an anecdote just about better than anyone. What got to me are the facts. They make me upset, nauseous, and a bit despairing. I just couldn't move forward, feeling this depressed.

Post Script:
I'm even more depressed -- and not amenable to finishing the book (Texas, you kill me; maybe that's what you want to do) -- now that I know in a run-off election, Texas Republicans have chosen another crazy Tea Party candidate for the November 2012 Senate race that even crazy Rick Perry didn't back. (It's obvious Texas Democrats have given up, and I'm not even a Democrat; I'm a lifelong Independent.) Sheesh. Who needs to read about this stuff? The people who get it won't read it, and the rest of us will just be depressed.

Cindy Marti, what do you think of the book so far? I really like Gail Collins in the NYTimes

Marti Garlett She writes so well and keeps me engaged...and upset. Rick Perry, what a tool. My favorite book of Collins's is When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present. I think you would love it too, Cindy.
