There was a very interesting and compelling story at the core of this book. I wish I hadn't so intensely disliked the main character, and felt he was one of the worst fathers in the world, so I could have rooted for him at any point. I also hated the character of his wife and felt so much pity for their son that it was impossible to root for their family to make it thru the rough patch. All that being said, I still read the whole book so clearly it was compelling enough to keep me turning pages. The writing is quite good, in fact. I just would have preferred to have had something redeemable in the main characters.
