Esslemont is getting more comfortable writing in the Malazan universe. His first book (Night of Knives) was choppy and felt forced. In Orb Sceptre Throne the witty banter, humor, momentous events and characterization familiar from Erikson's series were all present and well done. This book takes place shortly after the end of Book 9 of Malazan Book of the Fallen and catches us up with how Darujistan is faring. Highly recommended if you've read the "main" Malazan series.
