This only takes a few minutes to read and is such a wonderful little book. A child must write poetry for a school assignment, much to the child's dismay. (Poetry is for girls, poetry isn't cool, etc.) The child (and narrator) finally finds inspiration in the form of a yellow dog he once knew.
I would have liked this book even if it didn't have special meaning for me. My own best friend until I was 12 was a yellow dog named Tippy. She was the kindest and smartest dog I've ever known, and I will always miss her. I've read this book a few times, and every time I shed a few tears.
