Anna Hibiscus lives with her large extended family (and Canadian white mother) in an unidentified African country; each short chapter is an episode in her life, with themes children will be able to relate to and understand. Very sweet, with humorous illustrations. An excellent contribution to children's literature set in other countries and perfect for transitional readers.
