I picked this up at the library in an attempt to break a reading drought. I so enjoyed Call for the Dead earlier this year. I could have gone for a later better known le Carre but you know me, everything has to be read in order.

We're back with Smiley, the retired intelligence officer with a perfect talent for merging into the crowd. This time though he's displaced from London into setting and plot straight from Midsummer Murders. There has been a murder at a prestigious boarding school and Smiley is roped in to solve it.

There are some interesting set pieces and Smiley develops as a character but the whole is a little thin. It did what I wanted, which was hook me in, and it maintained my interest in le Carre but...not the greatest read of 2012.
