I don't know how to review this book. I could just copy and paste much of my review for A Game of Thrones, since what I loved about that book is continues throughout A Clash of Kings: there is a reality about it, in both characters and world-building. This is, in my opinion and limited expertise, the best post-Tolkien fantasy series – and probably more readable. I described A Game of Thrones as a bloody good book, yet I'm leaning towards A Clash of Kings being even better.

To anyone leery of starting this series because of it being a seven volume series – and each volume being huge in their own right – the story is interesting and readable enough for the pages to fly. I read this 900+ page book in two days – though I am admittedly a quick reader, and quicker when I love the book.

Yet I don't really know what else to say. It's hard to think of anything except how stunning this book was and how quickly I can get my hands on the next books in the series.

Just: read this series.
