3.5 stars. Audiobook

I have been a bit reluctant to tackle anything by Susanna Kearsley, thinking modern woman time traveling to a Jacobite uprising, sounds awfully Gabaldonian, and knowing there's no way she can do it as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I was pretty quickly able to leave behind comparisons to Outlander and enjoy this for what it was. There are certainly some problems with the story, particularly the pacing and rushed quality of the romance, but overall it was interesting and touching, with an unexpected twist that I enjoyed. The narration was excellent (though I don't actually know what a Cornish accent sounds like so I can't comment on how well she reproduced it).

Lynn I love that you used the term "Gabaldonian", and have to admit that I had a similar reaction to this book

Christy I felt the same reluctance about The Winter Sea by her but ended up loving it.
