** spoiler alert ** I'm re-reading this, because some of my friends love it, but I honestly can't remember it. I know I liked it well enough to recommend to Janna when she ran out of Nightside novels by Simon Green. But I did that not even remembering the plot very well.

In chapter three now... +1 for pseudo-noir voice, +1 for knowing when not to crack wise, -1 for condescending 'chivalry,' -1 for an instance of heavy-handed foreshadowing.

Okay, having finished it... Yep, still don't like it. I love noir detectives, with their internal monologues about secretaries with legs that go all the way up and clients who are real pistols. But usually, when Mr. Noir Detective is being sexist, well, I shrug it off as an artifact of when the book was written or the show was filmed.

Is the TV series of the same name based on this book series? I haven't watched it but couldn't help notice the similarity.

127002 The TV series is based on the books, yes. But from what I gather, the adaptation is fairly loose.
